About

Willow Music Lessons

My name is Liz, music teacher and founder of Willow Music Lessons. I have been teaching piano for over three decades and during that time have taught pupils ranging from infant stage to over 80 years old. My method of teaching builds on traditional practice with an emphasis on good technique and note-reading and I regularly prepare students for ABRSM graded music exams, where all my students have achieved at least a pass, with many achieving merit and distinction marks. However, exams are not for everyone and many of my pupils learn solely for the joy and pleasure of learning and playing.

My Studio

Currently, I teach individual piano lessons from my home studio in Rainham, Kent. It's a peaceful and private environment looking out onto a garden with a beautiful willow tree, from which my studio gets its name. The studio is equipped with a Bechstein grand piano, a fantastic playing experience for both new and more accomplished learners.

Training and Accreditation

I studied piano at Colchester Institute under the then Head of Piano, Allan Granville, gaining a BA (Hons) degree majoring in piano performance. During my three years there, I performed as a soloist and as part of trio and duet ensembles in the local area and was a three-time finalist in the college-wide annual piano competition.

Over the years I have continued my studies and performance, gaining a diploma with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and playing with local bands and orchestras. I completed a postgraduate music teaching qualification (PGCE) at Goldsmith’s College, University of London and went on to teach music in many schools across Essex and Kent.

I have also taught for Kent Music, the Kent and Medway Music Education Hub, and was a licensed music teacher for Dynamics Music and Medway Music Association for 15 years.

I am DBS checked, have completed child protection training and am a member of the European Piano Teacher’s Association (EPTA UK).
